Weinhold named Department of Pharmacy Practice Chair

LAWRENCE — Frank Weinhold is the new chair of the Department of Pharmacy Practice at the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy. He began his position June 1.

Weinhold has extensive experience in hospital pharmacy and pharmacy management. He was most recently the pharmacy clinical coordinator at the University of Kansas Health System St. Francis Campus and was previously the director of pharmacy at three different hospitals in two states. He earned a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy in 1992 and his doctor of pharmacy (Pharm.D.) in 2001, both from the KU School of Pharmacy. He also earned a master’s degree in hospital pharmacy and completed a post-graduate residency. He has served as an adjunct faculty member in three different departments at the school.

“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Weinhold to the KU School of Pharmacy team. He brings a wealth of experience in clinical pharmacy and administration,” said Ronald Ragan, dean of the pharmacy school. “His record of achievements is impressive, and his leadership has been instrumental in developing pharmacists for many years. I have asked him to begin work on a new strategic plan for the department and help our faculty expand their impact on our state and nation.”

Weinhold said he is excited by the opportunity to lead the department and showcase the important work they do in the classroom and at hospitals, clinics and pharmacies throughout Kansas.

“I am very happy to start serving the Department of Pharmacy Practice as their new chair,” Weinhold said. “I’m confident that together, our talented team of people will propel the work we do to even greater heights.”

The KU School of Pharmacy’s Department of Pharmacy Practice combines clinical care with teaching to benefit students and the people of Kansas. Faculty members are drug and disease experts who bring real-world experience into the classroom and to practice sites where they mentor the next generation of Kansas pharmacists.
